Topman Stylissimo
We caught up last week with the National Topman Stylist/Personal Shopping Manager Terry-James Lynch for a bit of a chin wag about a great style secret, the Topman Stylist Service. This is available in store on the recently opened second floor of Topman Oxford Circus, London. Once booked in a personal stylist will discuss and help you pick out the best outfits for you and your 2010 budget.
New York, New Fork, Reah Tok… customers in the US of A can take advantage of this service at the Topman store on Broadway NY.
Terry has been working hard with Topman Oxford Circus’ in house stylists to make this service as relaxed and helpful as possible. He also throws a rather damn fine party at Punk as well. He won’t even be mad if you turn up in something he’s already wearing. Anyhow;
Q1: Who are your personal style icons?
I have to say I don’t really have anybody that I look up to enough to call a style icon as I get bored very quickly with looks/trends and change my style maybe a little to much. I would say that Sean combs (P Diddy) is always immaculately dressed and right now I have my eye on NYPC (New Young Pony Club). They are a great band and all have an interesting fresh look. I look forward to meeting them very soon!
Q2: What’s your favourite suit in the current Topman range?
That’s a no brainer theirs an amazing light grey shawl collar skinny fit suit from the new Topman Ltd range that I have my eye on.
Q3: What do you predict to be the main trends for S/S 2010?
Well I got some words that I think will sum up with I will be wearing/doing: Two toned, skinny fit, flesh showing, tailored, fitted, smart, relaxed, chic and no hassle!
Q4: What are your favourite trainers/sneakers of all time?
Well I live in Converse, think they are a must have for everybody really. Right now I like colourful flytops from Nike… Love a high top with a skinny jean or smart trouser, the way forward!
Q5: How would I go about arranging a Topman Style Advisor appointment?
Call one of my stylists on: 0207 927 0155 or email us at topmanstylists@topman.com. For more information about the service you can visit Topman.com and look under Topman Sylist.

The Fashion Crime of 2009
I’ve had the best part of a month to reflect on 2009 so here it is…This crime is soooo bad it’s happening right underneath our noses without most of us even knowing. These criminals own a lovely branded v neck jumper or cardigan and love to break the fashion law on a regular basis.
There are people out there who also own set of rosary beads even though they are not remotely religious and don’t even know the purpose of them. These very people are considered to be extremely experienced and have recruited many others to join their clans. They want to ensure that this crime spreads rapidly and what they like to call “on the down low”.
The Fashion Crime of 2009 has to be the v-neck or cardigan with nothing underneath. The trend has been growing over the last 2 years but now it has really reached it’s peak. Experts say that the growth in this Crime is directly proportional to the success of the group JLS (X factor). Knitwear is ALWAYS meant to be worked with layering and this just doesn’t obey that law, not to mention the consequences of sweat coming into contact with a highly absorbent material such as wool.
What do you think the fashion crime of 2009 was? Stick your comments below! Also, check our previous article on Fashion Faux-pas
So Fresh, So Clean Vol. 2 – How to Wash your Denim Properly
It really irritates me when people don’t know how to wash their jeans properly. They spend a lot of money on a nice pair of jeans and end up treating it such a way that causes the denim to lose shape and feel like a pair of jogging pants. To stop the slaughter of denim in cities all across the globe, Moses has decided to write a little guide to washing your denim properly…
1) This is the first and most important tip to washing your jeans…DON’T WASH THEM unless you really have to ie: rubbing kebab meat all over your legs or some other non-descript mass spillage. FACT: I have worn many pairs of jeans for 18 months without washing them. If they smell of cigarettes or something more pungent, air them out for a day. If they still smell, wash them immediately because they probably are containing a new strain of the H1N1 virus.
2) OK, now you have come to a point where you have to wash them but you still want that rigidity and ruggedness when you first bought them. You have two options, you either take them to the dry cleaners or you can go to the beach! I recommend that you only dry clean once for the lifetime of the jeans. If you want to go to the beach to wash your jeans, take a dip in them for about 5 minutes, rub dry sand on your jeans and repeat this process about 3 times. When you’re done, just rinse in cold water (no salt) and let them dry in the sun. This seawater method is particularly good at keeping your denim very rigid.
3) Since we don’t all have the luxury of living near a beach and you had no option but to take the dry cleaning route, you will need to do the following for the second wash: Soak your jeans in cold water for about an hour with WOOLITE BLACK, once done, rinse and roll in a towel and then leave to dry.
Tip: It may sound obvious to some of you, but I am going to say it anyway: If you don’t want your jeans to bleed (fade), wash them inside out.
It might seem like a lot of extra effort to wash your jeans but if you think about it, you will only do this once or twice a year. That has been Moses’s Guide on How to Wash your Denim Properly, let me know how you all get along and if you have any other tips to bring to the table.

If you’re not going to Diddy’s White Party…
Okay its officially still summer so here are the Ray Ban “Clubmaster”. Old news I hear you say? These remastered sunglasses, originally introduced by Ray-Ban in 1986, were relaunched in December 2008. Not a lot of sunshine around at that time for some of us, so we have held off until now to get this up here.
Here you can see actors Ed Westwick and Joshua Jackson wearing them casually and slightly more dressed up respectively.
However after us ‘Nerds had resigned ourselves to these two variants of how to wear them, one of a us spotted a guy rocking them with a white tee/Air Jordans. The look was solid my friends.
They are going for very reasonable prices at sunglasses-shop.co.uk, so don’t be afraid to try something new this summer.

See Into the Future?
This time last year there was some discussion about these bad boys. They first came on the ‘Nerd’s radar funnily via the N*E*R*D “Everyone Nose (Remix)” video on your boy Pharrell. Oh how we chuckled to ourselves, then something was brought up. Go back and peep the video for N*E*R*D “She Wants To Move” March 2004 and there he is again sporting some white framed wayfarers. Almost a year before the likes of Ms Moss even thought about such things.
Last year they could be had for £275.00 at Oki-Ni and were released on the 30th September. We suppose only time will tell if people will take to the Gordi La Forge/Urban Music Visionary look.

Roll Up, Roll Up
We may be getting ahead of ourselves but my Spider/Trend sense is tingling for this Spring/Summer season.
Here is one which has been on the streets of Shoreditch for a while but has now hit the highstreet. Its the roll up trouser/ankle swinger look and these featured stone cotton slim fits can be found on topman.com.
Style Secrets: How to Wear Braces or Suspenders without Sewing the Buttons
Although clip-on braces make things 100 times easier, the problem is that they make you look like you are eleven years old and your mother still buys your clothes. However, the solution to the annoyance of having to sew a set of 6 buttons to every pair of trousers you own has finally been addressed with this Style Secret.
